What is Moissanite?
Moissanite can trace its origins to particles derived from a meteorite that crashed into the Arizona desert fifty thousand years ago.
In 1893 French chemist and Nobel prize-winner, Dr Henri Moissan discovered samples from the meteor crater. The extraordinary sparkle from the geological samples was a revelation that Dr Moissan determined as a new mineral, Silicon Carbide (SiC). The mineral form of Silicon Carbide was named Moissanite in honour of Dr Moissan.
Moissanite in its natural form is too rare and too small for use in jewellery purposes. However, one century later, through a combination of science, technology, and master gem cutting, Lab-created moissanite became available for fine jewellery.
